Mitsubishi Montero LS
| | Model of the car: | Mitsubishi Montero LS | | | General comments: | Seemed to be a good truck when I first got it, but the LS 3.0L lacks pick-up. It is almost impossible to change oil filter without disassembling front end, and you CAN NOT change your own spark pluges (it requires a $500 trip to the dealership). Did not hold up all that well in a head on collision (as compared to a 1987 Toyota 4-runner). Parts were difficult to aquire, and expensive. Devalued very quickly. Not the smoothest of engines. For the money, you can get a better vehicle. Up until 97 or 98, it lacked basic features that were present on other SUVs for some time, such as dual airbags and ABS | | | What things have gone wrong with the car: | Poorly designed engine. Not at all aerodynamic. A little wind on the highway and you were wrestling the wheel for control. Lack of basic features. Poorly designed center console. Placement of spare tire really restricts visabilty out of the rear window. | | | Previous car: | Toyota 4Runner. 87 and 97. Both are better in terms of overall quality and value. Better on gas, more powerful engine. Interior of 97 4Runner is not layed out as well as Montero. |
